Medizone International, Inc. (OTCBB: MZEI) Studies Continue to Demand Solution – Medizone Has It
  • Medizone International, Inc. (OTCBB:  MZEI)

Hospital Acquired Infections continue to dominate the news — and the news continues to be that there is “NO SOLUTION” yet.

Medizone has the answer with a sterilization system for contaminated hospital spaces with a fully portable unit is now within reach without enormous expense, which will translate into greatly reduced suffering, thousands of lives saved and a dramatic cost benefit for the health care system globally.  This mean universal demand, immediate demand.

Medizone International has announced unprecedented success in being able to predictably achieve 6 log (99.9999%) kill rates for the causative agents of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) represented with AsepticSure™.  Medizone believes that the performance profile of its AsepticSure™ Sterilization System will exceed all the prerequisite requirements of affordability, practicability and unmatched efficacy, which will catapult it into the world market.

From a commercial viewpoint, the higher the “kill rate” in the shortest turn around time, the more favorably physicians and hospital administrators will view the system. Accordingly, Medizone now believes that the performance profile of its AsepticSure™ Sterilization System will exceed all the prerequisite requirements of affordability, practicability and unmatched efficacy, which will catapult it into the world market.

According to a study released yesterday in the Archives of Internal Medicine the two most common conditions caused by hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) killed 48,000 people and ramped up health care costs by $8.1 billion in 2006 alone.”The nation urgently needs a comprehensive approach to reduce the risk posed by these deadly infections. Improving infection control is a clear way to both improve patient outcomes and lower health care costs.”

“In many cases, these conditions could have been avoided with better infection control in hospitals,” said Ramanan Laxminarayan of Resources for the Future, a think tank that sponsored the study.

Laxminarayan and his colleagues analyzed 69 million discharge records from hospitals in 40 states and identified two conditions caused by health care-associated infections: sepsis, a potentially lethal systemic response to infection and pneumonia, an infection of the lungs and respiratory tract.

Anup Malani of the University of Chicago, who worked on the study noted, “In some cases, relatively healthy people check into the hospital for routine surgery. They develop sepsis because of a lapse in infection control and they can die.”  One estimate from Pfizer Inc suggested that treating MRSA alone cost $4 billion a year.

This is the largest nationally representative study to date of the toll taken by sepsis and pneumonia, two conditions often caused by deadly microbes, including the antibiotic-resistant bacteria MRSA. Such infections can lead to longer hospital stays, serious complications and even death.   “In many cases, these conditions could have been avoided with better infection control in hospitals,” said Ramanan Laxminarayan, Ph.D., principal investigator for Extending the Cure, a project examining antibiotic resistance based at the Washington, D.C. think-tank Resources for the Future.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that all hospital-acquired infections are associated with 99,000 deaths per year.
